To an astrophysicist, “excursion sets” are one of the many mathematical tools we use to make sense of the filamentary cosmic web (see below) traced out by the clusters of galaxies that form in the evolving universe.
This blog is likewise a “set of excursions”, but in a more metaphorical sense – my reflections on cosmology, astrophysics, and particle physics, and the perspective of a scientist looking at the wider world. It is eclectic and low-traffic; rarely more than once a month and often just a few times a year.
I’ve been writing this blog for over a decade now, and one lesson has been that internet platforms come and go. Consequently, it seems best to cut my own path instead of hosting my blog inside a specific online ecosystem. However, the “like, share and subscribe” mantra of internet creators transcends any single site – if you enjoy what you read here, you can sign up to the newsletter and/or follow me on BlueSky or LinkedIn to get notifications for new articles.
